High School STEM educators are critical partners in inspiring and training a robust pipeline of students for the chemistry and biomedical professions. The New York Section's High School Teachers Topical Group supports teachers with lectures and hands-on demo sharing expositions. The New York Section recognizes excellence in education with the Nichols Foundation Chemistry Teacher Award and individual Subsections recognize high school students for academic achievement.
The New York Section also organizes several extracurricular activities that align with the High School chemistry curriculum. These activities include:
The New York Section maintains a financial commitment to supporting summer research experiences for economically disadvantaged high school students via ACS' Project SEED and financial support for underrepresented minorities majoring in chemistry-related disciplines in college via the ACS Scholars program. Indeed, the members of the New York Section have endowed the Eli Pearce ACS Scholar.
